is that similar to a grease monkey?

yesterday sharkey got mad at sky and called him a ‘liquid weasel’. i don’t know what that means. in other news, this week has been…this week. pants was out of town for 3 days, and came home sick, making a total of 3 sick boys in the house. (sharkey literally threw up ON me the other day, which was awesome.) i think they are finally on the upswing now though, due to a steady diet of ginger tea, garlic elixirs, vitamin c, and mucinex being poured down their pipes.

so…am i supposed to be doing school-type stuff with the kids during the summer? oops. a game or two of math bingo should cover some bases, right? there were some pretty hard problems for sky to figure out, so he used paper to solve them. of course sharkey had to make a few equations of his own, as well…

the kids have been into the toy story movies around here lately, so this weekend i saw these and thought it would be a fun thing to make with the kiddos. the cupcakes turned out sooo cute! although i prefer making cupcakes from scratch instead of a mix, i do use a mix when i make gluten-free ones. the best-tasting gluten-free mix is pamela’s products classic vanilla cake mix. here’s what i used for the frosting…

buttercream frosting

1/3 cup butter, softened

1 lb. powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 teaspoon milk

mix together till creamy. add more milk if too thick, or more sugar if too thin.

to turn the cupcakes into ‘aliens’, you will need:

green colored frosting

mint-flavored mentos

green apple-flavored sour straw candies

color the frosting green by mixing a few drops of green and yellow gel food coloring in with the frosting. frost the cupcakes, then add 3 mint mentos for eyes. (i just used a pen and made tiny black dots for eyeballs – i figured a couple little dots of ink wouldn’t kill us!)

cut up the sour straw candies into ear and antenna shapes, swipe a little mouth in the frosting with a knife, and there you go! aliens! (i actually kept these cutie cupcakes in the fridge, and i liked how they tasted cold better than room temp. just remember the mentos candies get a little hard in the fridge!) <a href=”
