carl, he’s in a forties tear-jerker

this pie is probably the best-tasting pie i’ve ever made. most likely because it’s an ice cream pie ;) but all (3!) of my boys LOVED it.   the kids helped me make it, and it tasted sooo good, you guys. and i don’t even like ice cream that much. oh, and after they each ate a piece of it, sky and sharkey both came up to me (at separate times) and hugged me and thanked me for making it! it was too cute. you HAVE to try this one!

tuxedo ice cream pie
about 3/4 bag of oreos (you can use newman’s own brand if you are wheat-free)
4 tablespoons melted butter
about a 1/4 gallon of vanilla ice cream
1 tub of cool whip (or you can use sweetened whipped cream)
caramel sauce
chocolate sauce
maraschino cherries, optional

first, grease a pie plate and set it aside. put the oreos in a big ziploc bag (except for about 5-6 whole ones you’ll need later), and hand over a kitchen hammer to the kids and let them go to town crushing up the cookies. dump all the oreo crumbs into the pie plate, and mix with the melted butter to form a crust. be sure to make your crust go all the way up the sides of the pie plate.

mix the cool whip and ice cream together (i softened the ice cream in the microwave for about 20 seconds first), and spoon over crust. let the kids squirt caramel and chocolate sauce on top of the ice cream mixture. crush the remaining 5-6 cookies into large chunks, and sprinkle them on top. throw it into the freezer for a few hours, if you can wait that long. (we couldn’t.) top with a maraschino cherry on each slice. or, if you are sharkey, top with as many cherries as you can before your mom catches you. enjoy!
